The Bears’ primetime tour wraps up at Soldier Field this week. After winning on Thursday night and Monday night, Chicago gets the Sunday night spotlight against Tampa Bay, and the Bears are favored by nearly a touchdown. Chicago Is Rolling
The Bears are 6-2, winners of three straight and coming off their biggest win of the season, a 34-17 beating of the defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks on Monday Night Football. Caleb Williams has been efficient all year, and the front office pushed its chips in before the trade deadline by adding defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons. Chicago has also been the best team in football against the spread this season.
Tampa Bay’s Path
The Buccaneers are 3-5, but their identity is clear. Bucky Irving leads a running game that can control the clock, and Tampa Bay just beat Atlanta in a game where the Falcons threw four interceptions. If the Bucs can stay on schedule and avoid long passing downs, they can keep this game in the range where one big play decides it.
The Weather Factor
The forecast is worth checking before you bet. There’s a chance of rain and wind at Soldier Field on Sunday night, and November weather on the lakefront tends to slow passing games down. That favors a Tampa Bay offense built around the run and a Chicago defense that just added a disruptive interior lineman.
The Pick: Under 46.5
Both teams have reasons to keep the ball on the ground. Tampa Bay wants to shorten the game with Irving, and Chicago has no need to take risks with a lead on a short week after playing Monday night. Add in the possibility of rain and wind, and this sets up as a physical, clock-draining game. Only four of Tampa Bay’s eight games have gone over this season. The Short-Week Angle
One more thing to watch: Chicago is turning around from a Monday night game in Seattle to a Sunday night home game. That’s six days, cross-country travel and the emotional high of beating the champs. Short weeks often lead to sluggish starts, which is another reason a low-scoring game makes sense.
